Baby Luna - born May 20, 2010 -- is taking her first steps at the Disney Animal Kingdom Kilimanjaro Safaris Savannah. This beautiful baby girl is being slowly introduced to the world via a carefully-developed plan created by the Disney Animal Program animal care experts. First, there was bonding time with momma Donna, followed by introductions and time with the other members of the elephant herd, and even a swim test to make sure Luna will be safe in the Savannah ponds.
Luna and mom will split summer days between being on the Savannah with the elephant herd, where safari guests might be able to get a glimpse of the baby amidst the grown-up pachyderms, and spending alone time with momma in a special backstage area. The Animal Kingdom herd who will be helping Donna care for Luna include "aunts" Vasha and Rafiki, "cousin" KIanga (Vasha's calf) and big sister Nadirah. Luna's time on the Savannah and in public will increase as the summer progresses, until she is ready to be with the herd all the time.
