Join the Decommissioning Party -- This is the last chance to ride Disney's Hollywood Studios attraction Star Tours before it shuts down for a serious refurbishment (planned re-opening is sometime in 2011). It's being touted as a truly out of this world party, with special Star Wars themed party zones, exclusive Star Wars shows, the "Death Star Disco," an event-only fireworks show, and more. Last Tour is a ticket-only event and is not included in regular park admission. Tickets are $75/person and Star Wars costumes are welcomed, even encouraged. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to the offical Walt Disney World Events ticketing page.
Cheap and Cheesy: Dueling Pianos
Head on over to Universal's CityWalk favorite Pat O'Brians piano lounge for food, drinks and a great dueling pianos show. Enjoy some wings, a Hurricane or two, and sing along with the piano players. The lounge opens at 5pm amd there's no cover charge if you get there early in the evening.
Free and Easy: Disney's Boardwalk
It's free to wander all day and all night! From 6:30pm to 10 pm every night, there is also free entertainment -- everything from brass bands to jugglers to fortune tellers to entertain and delilght. There are plenty of places to eat, drink and shop, so tale a break from the parks and enjoy a night on the Boardwalk.
Great for Grownups: The Adult Puppet Slam
This grownups-only "short and strange puppetry" acts show has been a top pick with local journalists, cultural arts fans, and locals in search of unique ways to spend an evening. The Pinocchio's Marionette Theater stresses that this is not an event for anyone under the age of 12 but it's certainly a great night out for adults. For more information and tickets, go to the Pinocchio Marionette Theater website.
Best for Kids: Frogs! Beyond Green at the Orlando Science Center
This is a touring exhibit developed by the Audobon Nature Institute. The exhibit features over 80 live frogs and toads from all over the world, from tiny toxic dart frogs to the giant Surinam toad. Kids will love it and adults will probably learn a few things about these interesting creatures, many of which are endangered. Check out the Orlando Science Center for more information about this and other exhibits.
My Pick: If you can swing the cost, I'd definitely go for the Last Tour. It's an exclusive party on Disney property, so it's guaranteed to be a good time.
