Head downtown for a classic bbq cookoff contest. For only $10, you'll get a wristband allowing you to taste all the delicious meaty treats in the competition, plus delicious beans and slaw, and a vote in the People's Choice category. The event is rain or shine and features -- in addition to the great eats -- covered event tents, misters, water games, and ice cold beverages galore. It's presented by Trinity Downtown, a local church organization that is dedicated to caring for downtown Orlando and all the people in it. Free Fun: Full Moon Cemetery Walk at Historic Greenwood Cemetery
Located on the outskirts of downtown Orlando, Greenwood Cemetery is a tranquil and beautiful piece of Orlando history. Its 82 acres of rolling hills, exceptional graveyard art and achitecture, and flowering azaleas make it a unique place to spend some quiet time. Tonight, you can reserve a spot for a guided moonlight stroll of the cemetery. Take a $5 tour of the best bars in this uber-cool hipster enclave of downtown Orlando. The area features a mix of bars and clubs that attract artists, bikers, open-minded performers and the crowds that accompany all of the above. So if you're looking for funky fun in a growing artistic neighborhood, this is the event for you. All stops will include drinks specials. The crawl occurs monthly; this month's stops include Funky Monkey Wine Company, Wally's Mills Avenue Liquors, The Peacock Room and Paradise Orlando. Fantastic for Families: If a Starfish Can Grow A New Arm, Why Can't I?
The Orlando Science Center presents this fantastic touring exhibit about tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. It's a hands-on experience that guides visitors through this complex branch of science, all presented in a kid-friendly format by Seamore, an animated starfish with a thing for Elvis Presley. Interactive activities within the exhibit include a cell puzzle station (construct a nerve cell and a blood cell), a stem cell Q & A kiosk, and information about the kinds of professionals who work in this exciting and sometimes controversial field.
