Disney World vs. Disneyland: which is the more affordable vacation?

Disneyland in Anaheim, California was Disney's first theme park creation, but Disney World in Orlando, Florida soon followed.  The two parks sit on opposite sides of the country, and, according to Google maps, the 2,499 miles between them can be driven in 34 hours.  But, for the average family of 4 that doesn't live close to either park, which one offers the more affordable vacation?

Hipmunk, a trip and travel planning website, took on this question and delivered some interesting results.  The graphic below illustrates most of their findings.  For a larger version, please click here.

Is Disney World or Disneyland more affordable

After looking over this graphic, we offer 3 main takeaways:
  • Flights into Los Angeles are generally 1/3 more expensive than flights into Orlando
  • Tickets (admission) to Disney World are roughly 10% more expensive than tickets to Disneyland
  • The biggest price discrepancies lie in whether a family decides to stay at a Disney property, or at a non-Disney hotel.  For a family looking to save money, this is, by far, the area where the most savings can be realized.  At Disney World, vacationers can save an average of 60% by staying at a non-Disney property.  And, at Disneyland, the savings are almost 70%.
*Staying at a Disneyland property is more expensive than a Disney World property, but that's only because Disneyland offers a small handful of options, and Disney World offers 31 total properties to stay at.

May 09, 2015 0
Disney's Coolest Summer Ever

The "Coolest Summer Ever" is Disney World's promotional theme for the 2015 summer season.  And since the official start of Summer is coming up in a couple of weeks, Disney is throwing a 24 hour party to kick off the summer season.  The party will take place at both the Magic Kingdom in Florida and Disneyland in California.  From Friday, May 22nd at 6 AM till Saturday, May 23rd at 6 AM, prepare to party long and hard.

There will be plenty of activities, parades, and festivities to keep the entertainment rolling along.  Disney Channel and Disney XD will be serving as Grand Marshals, and there will be plenty of Disney characters on hand, as well as several stars from shows on the Disney Channel, including “Austin & Ally” (Ross Lynch, Laura Marano and Calum Worthy); “Jessie” (Karan Brar and Skai Jackson, Peyton List); “Liv and Maddie” (Dove Cameron). Disney XD’s “Mighty Med” will by represented by Bradley Perry and Jake Short.

Additionally, representing the Disney Channel's summer movie "Teen Beach 2", actors Garret Clayton, Lynch, Maia Mitchell and Grace Phipps will be parading down Main Street.

A fun holiday treat from Disney and "Convos with My 2-Year Old"

December 19, 2013 0
OK, so technically this is Disneyland and therefore not Orlando at all, but it's just too adorable not to share.

Disneyland recently invited well-known 'net personalities to join them for the premiere gathering of Social Media All Stars Show Your Disney Side. The fantastic Matthew Clarke of the sensationally-funny Convos with My 2-Year Old showed up, along with his wife, daughter Coco, and of course David Milchard -- the grown man who portrays Coco in every video.

The video series is based on actual conversations Matthew has had with Coco, but the twist is Milchard. Anyone who's ever been around a toddler knows those conversations can breach the surreal under ordinary circumstances, but when you have the kid played by a tall, skinny, scruffy-faced full grown man, things take a comedic turn that YouTube was made for.

Enjoy this special episode, filmed at Disneyland. Happy Holidays, Clarke family -- including Mr. Milchard!
