Take a beautiful break at the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum

Not to take anything away from the theme parks -- where I always have a good time -- but sometimes you just need a break from the crowds and the kids and the crazy. You know, one of those days where you want to do something, but not the usual thing. That the kind of day that is perfect for a visit to the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art in Winter Park.

The stunning examples above barely represent the full collection of stained glass housed in the museum. The Morse Museum is home to the world's largest collection of Tiffany stained glass, including an entire chapel interior that was originally designed for the 1839 World Exposition in Chicago. There is also a collection of American art pottery, paintings, graphics, and decorative items.

There is something incredibly soothing about walking around this museum. The way the light filters through the stained glass is mesmerizing, almost hypnotizing. The Morse Museum is one of my favorite places to wander, and to simply be. It's like a little life vacation in one convenient building. And some days, we all need that.

For more information and to learn about current and upcoming exhibits (like Art Nouveau and fountain pens) in addition to the permanent collection, visit their website.
