Visiting Disney World's magical four theme parks is an adventure like no other. The parks can seem all the same, and all so different, at the same time. Having four glorious days, being able to devout an entire day to each magnificent park, can often seems like not enough for many people. Many vacationers need at least two days at the Magic Kingdom, or maybe even three. However, some DW fans don't have such luxuries when it comes to time, and they must take as much in as they can in three days. Or two days. Or, even one.
Disney World in a day. Is it possible? Should it be possible? Some say no, but others say yes.
A few brave souls have attacked this adventure, and have produced some very impressive results. Thankfully, they've shared their learned knowledge with us. For example, the first thing one would want to do is to see which of the four theme parks opens early on their fateful day, and which park will stay open late. It's best to either begin at or to end at the Magic Kingdom. And, if entirely possible, one must drive in their own vehicle from park-to-park.
There's many more tips to help in accomplishing this monumental task. Read the full cheat sheet here!

Disney After Hours - One of the Magic Kingdom's best kept secrets!

There are so many things to love at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. However, the long lines and big crowds generally aren't two of them. For vacationers looking to avoid these two obstacles, there is one solution, but only if they can make it on select days, and don't mind attending the park at night.
Disney After Hours takes place on select nights at the Magic Kingdom, and allows visitor access for a 3 hour period. During this period, guests will have access to over 25 rides and attractions with little to no wait time. We've been following up with guests, who have been positing pictures of the wait times they've been experiencing. None of them have been over 10 minutes!
The price for an admission ticket is $119, for both Adults and Children, and must be purchased directly from Disney (link).

Disney World Welcomes Google Street View Trekkers

Traveling to Disney World in Orlando is the best part of the year for many people. For some, it's a trip they're only able to experience every few years, or even once in a lifetime. If only Orlando was just around the corner for everyone, and didn't cost any money to travel to, or to gain admission into the parks.
Well, thank you Google, because now anyone can go walking down Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom, or walk up to Spaceship Earth in EPCOT. Well, in a different type of reality, but one that you're able to do well wearing your pajamas and sitting on your own couch.
By now, we are all familiar with Google Street Views, and most of us have seen the Google Street Car driving around with the green camera atop its room. Those cars have literally mapped and photographed every street in America. And, now, they have mapped and photographed all the streets of the Walt Disney World Resort.
Now we can all go right to Cinderella Castle, walk around, and explore the park just as all those lucky vacationers were doing on that beautiful sunny day...
Or, how about visiting EPCOT...
This is such a cool thing for many reasons. For one, this makes the parks immediately accessible to anyone and everyone. But, for those of us who are planning an upcoming trip to Disney World, this gives people a resource to help familiarize themselves with the layout of the parks before they actually arrive.
So, a big thank you to the Google Street View Trekkers (like the one pictured below). Although, who wouldn't have wanted to do that job? Sign me up!

Adult Drinks at the Magic Kingdom? Yes, it's now a thing...

Disney World has been so many things to so many people. But, for visitors looking for a couple of afternoon libations, there have historically been few options. For years, people looking for cocktails in the the four major Disney theme parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom), had options at all of them, except the Magic Kingdom. The most popular option was to head over to EPCOT's World Showcase. Many visitors participate in "Drinking Around The World", where they're able to move around from country to country amongst the different pavilions. Now however, they'll also find some alcoholic refreshments in Disney's most popular and most famous park, the Magic Kingdom.
Starting at December 23rd, 4 restaurants at the Magic Kingdom will begin selling both wine and beer during lunch and beer hours. These 4 restaurants are Tony’s Town Square Restaurant, the Liberty Tree Tavern, Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen and Cinderella’s Royal Table. There will also be some variations, such as champagne and sparkling wine being served at Cinderella's Royal Table.

If you have little ones in your family, there's a good chance that Orlando's spookier Halloween offerings are more trick than treat. But never fear! (Yes, yes. Bad pun intended.) Disney's Magic Kingdom has you covered with Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
On select nights from September 10 through November 1, you can dress up and join the not-so-scary fun as you trick-or-treat with Mickey and all of his friends. In addition to the standard candy collection, you can also attend the Disney Villains Mix and Mingle in front of Cinderella's castle, watch Mickey's "Boo-to-You" Halloween Parade (led by the Headless Horseman), and fireworks and songs at Happy HalloWishes.
Admission to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is not included in regular park admission. Tickets start at $59 for adults and $54 for children 3 - 9. To view available dates and purchase tickets, click here.

Two BIG events this Friday -- which will you choose?

Two of the biggest Orlando theme parks have huge events to start off your Memorial Day Weekend. Will you attend one, the other, or both?
That was the scene on Spaceship Earth when Disney president George Kalogridis announced the first-ever Disney Parks all-nighter: "Guests can start Memorial Day Weekend with a 24-hour-marathon of memory-making as three Parks stay open all day and all night to celebrate the bi-coastal kick-off of a Monstrous Summer at Disney Parks."
In Florida, only the Magic Kingdom will be open for the full 24-hours (6am to 6am) to celebrate Monster Madness. Full details of what you will experience are listed on the Disney Parks site, but here are a few choice details:

- Character meet and greets themed like a pajama party
- Dance parties at Cinderella's Castle
There are sure to be loads of other surprises, and park attendance is expected to be MASSIVE and last the whole 24 hours.
Meanwhile, it's finally time for Sea World's long-awaited opening of Antarctica: Empire of the Penguins.
This is the largest expansion in the park's history. There will be a new family ride, a massive new penguin colony exhibit, and loads more (including merchandise, of course). Some information on merchandise and new restaurants is already available at the Sea World Orlando website, so you can plan your exploration. Plus you can download a free song that was created especially for the new area of the park.
So which will it be for your family?

Dust off your spats, bust out your pearls - It's Spring 2013 Dapper Day at Disney
Dawn Nikithser
February 15, 2013

Based on original Disneyland and Disneyworld art that featured fashionable people having a delightful time at Disney, Dapper Day is a twice-yearly, California and Florida, unofficial Disney dress-up day. Participants don everything from Steampunk finery to vintage couture, and enjoy a day at the (two, sometimes three if Paris plays) happiest place on earth.
While The Disney Parks don't officially endorse this event, they definitely love to play along. This year, both The Magic Kingdom and Disneyland are offering cut-rate one-day, one park tickets and they even created a special pin to commemorate the 3rd annual celebration.
Spring Dapper Day is February 24, 2013, and even if you're not going to dress to the nines, it's a great day to be in the parks and see what other people are wearing. If you'd love to don your dapper duds but won't be ready in time, don't worry -- there's always a Fall event as well. Keep you eye on the official website, plus their Facebook and Twitter accounts, to know when to save the date!

While the new Fantasyland isn't opening until December 6, 2012, pictures of the upcoming changes just keep coming! This time, it's photos from "Under the Sea -- The Journey of The Little Mermaid."
The pictures appeared today on the official Disney Parks Blog; the attraction will open in December, just like the rest of the new Fantasyland. Here are some great shots of what you can expect when you ride this attraction (which will be inside Prince Eric's Castle, yet another new Fantasyland addition):

Nothing lasts forever: September will bid farewell to theme park faves
Dawn Nikithser
August 28, 2012

Two theme parks will end two fan favorites -- Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom's "The Magic, The Memories, and You" nighttime show and Sea World's Makahiki Luau.
You've got one week left to see the Disney show, which is projected onto Cinderella's Castle after dark -- it closes on Labor Day Monday (September 3, 2012). A new show, "Celebrate the Magic," will open in November of 2012 as part of the Fantasyland reboot. Elements from the current show will be incorporated into the new one. Here's a sneak artist's preview, from the official Disney Parks Blog:
The new show will be a Walt Disney World exclusive; no other Disney park will have it.
While Disney fans will have something new to look forward to, fans of the Makahiki Luau at Sea World of Orlando are going to have to make due with reservations availability for the next few weeks -- as of October 1, 2012, the 30-year old, much-loved dinner show will be no more.
The final dinner will take place September 30, 2012 at 6 p.m.; that seating is already sold out. At a mere $46 per person (including one complimentary tropical drink each) for dinner and entertainment, with no park admission required and free parking for luau guests, I urge you to make a reservation and enjoy this great family event before it says Aloha for good.

Dreams DO come true: Walt Disney World Announces Fantasyland Opening

The long wait is nearly over; the fairy dust is floating in the air! The new Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom Fantasyland is set to open December 6, 2012 -- just in time for the busy holiday season.
The news was announced on the official Disney Parks blog and via their twitter, with pictures at the blog. Here is a sample of what you can expect, come December -- Prince Eric's Castle, which is home to the Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid attraction:
For a gallery with more sneak peeks, including some of the amazing details in queue lines, restaurant decor, and stained glass, go the Disney Parks gallery. Then start marking the days on your calendar, and buy your Disney Passes now (the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is normally super low capacity for crowds, so even with the big opening, it's the perfect time to plan your trip).

President Obama Launches Massive Tourist Initiative

In his brief speech, the President outlined a number of different actions being taken by his administration to make tourism easier for those wishing to visit the U.S. Brazilian and Chinese tourists will be especially pleased, as the wait time for a visa will be cut from what can sometimes be a wait of up to three months to as few as twenty-one days.
The timing of this speech, and this initiative, not only distracted people briefly from the ongoing Republican primary race, but also ensures that results will be seen in time for the summer months, which are hugely important for tourism in the U.S.

Clap your hands, believers! The Disney Fairies are returning to the Magic Kingdom
Dawn Nikithser
July 08, 2011

They're already filling EPCOT with pixiedust and smiles, but soon the Disney Fairies will be returning to The Magic Kingdom for meet and greets with their loyal fans.
According to the official Disney Parks Blog, July 28 will mark this magical return. Meet and greets will take place in the Adventureland Veranda. Guests can gather there to meet Tinkerbell and the whole Pixie Hollow Gang for pictures, handshakes, hugs, and autographs.
Will the fairies stay in Adventureland, we wonder, or will they make the move to Fantasyland when the renovated land debuts next year? Seems like the perfect pairing to us, but for now, we're just glad they're back in the Kingdom.

Incredible "forced perspective" images of the new Beast's Castle in WDW's Fantasyland expansion
Dawn Nikithser
April 14, 2011

The first offical images were published on the Disney Parks blog just a few days ago. When people saw the pics, there was a little panic -- would Beast's castle overpower the iconic Cinderella Castle at the foot of Main Street USA? Would it dwarf Fantasyland classic rides like Dumbo? Uh, no. Not quite. Check it out:
This isn't the first time Disney Parks have used the magic of forced perspective in their Imagineering. Walt was a proponent of it back in the construction days of Disneyland, using it not just for buildings but also for trees and shrubs that accompanied the structures. It's all intended to create the most dramatic backdrops for the Happiest Places on Earth, and the Fantasyland expansion is certainly not going be exempt from that rule. Construction is ongoing, with planned openings (section by section, most likely) beginning late 2012 .

WDW Haunted Mansion news! Interactive queue to debut end of month

It is my absolute favorite Disney ride and has been since my first visit, ::mumblesomething:: years ago. I always get a little nervous when they talk about making changes - I was nearly apoplectic with worry when they refurb'd the whole thing back in 2007. But this round of changes already looks GREAT. Check out the video below:
The changes will debut slightly ahead of schedule AND just in time for the big Spring Break and summer crowds. I can't wait to experience it for myself. Onward, Doom Buggies! Happy Haunts, away!

Start the day off right -- Great Orlando Breakfast options
Dawn Nikithser
September 10, 2010
0

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially if that day is going to be spent running non-stop at theme parks in the Florida heat. Gearing up for a good day means filling up with a good meal before you even get started. Most hotels have gerat options for breakfast and there's always the fast food option, if you're in a hurry. Some travelers also swear by stocking their rooms with non-perishable breakfast on the go, such as granola bars, bottled water, fresh and dried fruits, even cereal (grab a pint of milk from the convenience store and use your travel mug as a bowl).
But just like anywhere else in the world, people do have their favorites. I'm a big fan of The Village Inn, just down the street from Sea World on International Drive and Westwood Boulevard -- come for the breakfast, stay for the pie. In fact, treat yourself to pie for breakfast! It's vacation, after all.
Another fantastic breakfast place is East Lake Fish Camp. This is off the beaten track yet still close to the major attractions -- "minutes from area attractions, yet worlds apart," on beautiful on East Lake Tohopekaliga in Kissimmee. The restaurant here is a hidden gem, especially for the budget-conscious. After breakfast, you can also go on an airboat ride with Boggy Creek Airboat Rides or try your hand at the local bass fishing with Jay's Bass Bustin'.
Blog reader Bob M., from New Jersey, has his favorites, too. Bob, a frequent Walt Disney World visitor, is a big fan of Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Boma's breakfast buffet is extensive and it's truly a fan fave -- nearly everyone I spoke to recommended it. Frankly, so do I -- even at $15 per person, it's aboslutely worth it. Bob loves the extra Disney magic that often comes with breakfast at Boma:
"I had a great experience at Boma. I had my heart set on mango, but there was none set out at the fruit station that morning. I commented in passing to the CMs behind the counter that I was looking forward to mango, but alas, 'twas not to be, so I sucked it up & went back to my table, prepared to do without. A few minutes later, a lady from the kitchen staff approached my table & asked "Are you the guest who was asking about mango?" I said "Yes" and from behind her back she produced a huge mango & placed it in front of me. Even my waitress looked surprised, just before offering to take it in back & slice it up for me. The extra mile!"
In park, Bob recommends Main Street Bakery in the Magic Kingdom -- though he warns that long lines can be expected, thanks to the delicious scents of fresh-baked pastries that waft from the shop's open doors -- and The Lunching Pad in Tomorrowland. The Lunchig Pad is a great place to grab coffee and a muffin and "sit in relative peace (aside from a few avian beggars, perhaps) at one of their outdoor tables as the hordes pass by en route to Space Mountain."
Next up is Amy W., also from New Jersey. Amy and her family go to Orlando every year. They have three particular breakfast favorites, including one unusual choice -- Chan's Chinese for authentic Chinese dim sum. "If you are willing to wait a little later for brunch instead of breakfast," she says, "there is Chan's Chinese Restaurant on Colonial Drive (SR 50) that serves dim sum. The dim sum there is as good as the food you get in NYC."
If you're up for a little more adventure in search of breakfast, Amy's family also loves The Old Spanish Sugar Mill restaurant, located in DeLeon Springs State Park, about 45 minutes north of Orlando. "You make pancakes on a griddle in the middle of your table!" Amy says -- her kids love it and the pancakes taste good enough to make the drive worthwhile.
In park, Amy and family head to EPCOT's World Showcase and The Princess Storybook Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in the Norway Pavilion.
"We love getting into the park early. The interaction with the Princesses is great, it is only 1 table service credit if you are on the disney dining plan. The hot food includes eggs, bacon, and a potato casserole that my husband literally dreams about. The hot food is served family style and you can get as much of it as you want. There is also a cold buffet with fruits, cheeses and pastries."

Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party tickets now on sale!
Dawn Nikithser
September 02, 2010

The time has come to don your Halloween finest and trick or treat with your Disney favorites -- tickets for the Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party are now on sale. This annual event is a family favorite, as the Magic Kingdom becomes a Halloween wonderland for children and Disney-loving adults.
From 7pm to midnight on select nights in September, October and November 2010, guests are encouraged to attend in costume and trick-or-treat through the park, sometimes alongside Disney characters (including rarely-seen villains). Many Magic Kingdom attractions stay open late for this special event, so if you've always wanted to ride the Haunted Mansion after dark, this is the event for you. Halloween theming throughout the park transforms familiar scenes into "happy haunted hollows," which are great for fall photo opps.
But the best part of Not-So-Scary is the parade and fireworks. The parade gets off to its supernatural start with the ride of The Headless Horseman and continues with Haunted Mansion characters in attendance, plus a host of Disney Villains and classic characters in their finest Halloween attire. The night ends with Mickey's finest fireworks, the special Happy HalloWishes show -- this year, the Disney Villains trick-or-treat the skies!
The Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a ticketed event, with admission separate from your regular park passes. Weekend nights -- especially those closest to Halloween -- sell out fast, so be sure to get your tickets now!
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will take place on the following dates in 2010:
September 14,18,21,23,25, 28, 30
October 1, 3, 7,8, 11, 12, 14, 17, 19, 21, 22, 24, 26, 28, 29, 31

November 11, 2009

The holidays are almost here! There is no doubt you have probably heard some holiday songs in the stores and started to see the various holiday commercials appearing on the television. Hopefully, you’ve purchased your discount Disney tickets for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and you’re ready to go, because this is going to be a beautiful event Disney and holiday fans of all ages will enjoy! The holiday decorations are already up at the Magic Kingdom. Wreathes and beautiful nutcracker statues decorate the trees and line the streets of the Magic Kingdom. You will find special statues spiced up for the holidays and see snow-themed Mickey balloons, tons of Christmas decorations, and great Christmas-themed Mickey and Minnie Ears. If you like the holidays and you’re a Disney fanatic, this is heaven on Earth!
Tomorrowland will have a brand new look and a brand new show once you get to Walt Disney World. The Tomorrowland Transit Authority was fully refurbished and just re-opened. They even fixed up the bathrooms near Space Mountain for a brand new look. Oh! The holidays are fast approaching and that only means summer is that much closer. If you’re a high school senior at the moment, you’re probably fretting over college applications and worrying about what to do after you graduate. But don’t forgot one very important thing—Grad Nite! This special event at the Disney theme parks is a tradition for high school kids across the nation. Every year, the Walt Disney Company brings Grad Nite to both Disneyland and the Walt Disney World Resort right here in Orlando, FL. Grad Nite is a special event where high school seniors can get together and have fun as a class for the last time before their graduation as they go on all of the great Disney rides, attend special events and see special groups in concert.
2010’s Grad Nite will not disappoint! The event will run April 23, 24, 30 and May 1st from 10pm until 4am. That means you and all of your friends will be able to go on the best rides like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, The Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean with students from Central Florida and the rest of the United States. Along with having access to the great rides, there will be a number of dance parties and a pre-party. While Disney is still mum on the pre-party details, we know there will be dance parties in Tomorrowland and Frontierland. You and your friends can dance the night away to your favorite songs surrounded by amazing video walls.
If you’re going to attend Grad Nite in 2010, or DGN10 for short, you can expect to see some amazing acts performing. If you’re a fan of America’s Best Dance Crew both Quest Crew and Beat Freaks will be showing off their moves to crowds of high school seniors. Music fans will flip over the biggest Grad Nite guest announced so far: Paramore! This rock band fronted by the orange-haired Hayley Williams has had huge success with songs like “crushcrushcrush,” “Misery Business,” and “Decode.” Singers like Keri Hilson, Mario and bands like Boys Like Girls will also be performing at DGN10. It’s an event no high school student can miss!
